How to validate an Ecuadorian cédula
How the check digit works
The cédula has 10 digits: province (01–24 or 30), a third digit of 0–5 for individuals, and a final mod-10 check digit:
- Multiply the first 9 digits by alternating
2,1,2,1,…. - If a product is greater than 9, subtract 9. Add everything up.
- Check digit =
(10 − sum mod 10) mod 10.
